19 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army Kapran distributed blankets and solar lanterns among Gujjar and Bakarwal families of remote villages of Kapran Verinag.
“The Gujjar and Bakarwal communities are economically and socially backward and are residing in isolated hamlets. Children from the communities struggle to acquire good education as many of them do not have full-time electricity at home,” Company Commander Avinesh said;
“50 blankets and 50 solar lanterns were distributed among Gujjar and Bakarwal families at Kapran and its adjacents,” he said.
The initiative was launched by the Army after it was felt that electricity was the most critical requirement for the communities living in far-flung areas.
“Through the initiative, we aim to uplift the rural population living in high-altitude areas. It will also lead to better relation between the Army and the local population,” he said.
Residents thanked to Major Avinesh for taking such step to provide free lanterns and blankets to poorer people of Kapran remote area.
