Srinagar, Dec25 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made unannounced early morning visits to the Bone and Joint Hospital in Barzulla and the Children’s Hospital in Bemina today to assess the state of healthcare facilities as the Kashmir Valley endures a bone-chilling cold wave.

A source told that doctors and hospital administration were completely unaware of the visit until the Chief Minister was seen interacting with patients and making rounds of the wards. “The visit caught everyone off guard, but it allowed the Chief Minister to observe the ground realities without any prior preparations,” the sources said.

During his surprise inspections, the Chief Minister interacted with hospital staff and patients, enquiring about the availability of medical supplies, heating arrangements, and emergency care readiness.
The visit aimed to ensure that healthcare institutions remain equipped to handle the increased demand for services during the harsh winter season, source added.

The Chief Minister expressed his concern over the challenges posed by the extreme cold.  The prevailing fridged conditions have not only strained power and water supplies but also led to a surge in cold-related illnesses.

Speaking to hospital authorities, Omar Abdullah emphasized the need for round-the-clock functioning of heating systems and an uninterrupted supply of medicines. “Hospitals are critical in these extreme weather conditions, and it is imperative that they remain fully operational to serve the people,” he stated during his visit.

He also praised the doctors and medical staff for their dedication in delivering quality treatment in challenging weather conditions.

Residents have lauded the Chief Minister’s proactive approach, noting that his on-ground presence reflects his commitment to addressing public grievances during this challenging time.

The Chief Minister had announced plans to station himself in Srinagar for the next week to oversee the functioning of the Power Department and other essential services.

The visits have drawn widespread attention, showcasing the Chief Minister’s efforts to directly address the pressing issues faced by healthcare institutions and the public during the severe winter conditions.
