Srinagar, Jan 3 : A group of attendants staged a protest outside Amandeep BR Medcity Hospital in the Tengapora Bypass area of Srinagar, demanding action against the hospital management for alleged medical negligence and unethical practices.

One of the attendants revealed that the hospital charged Rs 2.75 lakhs for a knee surgery, while he had paid Rs 5 lakhs for the surgery of his mother’s both knees. The irony, he said, was that the hospital had hired Dr. Avatar Singh for the surgery, but he was not available at the time. Dr. Singh arrived only five hours after the surgery was completed, leaving the attendants in the dark about who actually performed the surgery.

The attendants expressed their frustration, stating that when they inquired about the absence of the doctor, no one responded. They accused the hospital of turning into a business hub and demanded that it be sealed.

“There were 11 patients who were given anesthesia, and the doctor who was supposed to perform the surgeries was not present. We paid for the doctor who remained absent. We want to know which doctors conducted the surgeries,” they said.

The protesters vowed to take legal action against the hospital for cheating them and compromising their trust. They emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in the hospital’s operations to prevent such incidents in the future.

Efforts to contact the hospital management didn’t materialize. [KNT]
