Srinagar, Mar 22: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) President and former minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has voiced serious concern over the ongoing protests by daily wagers across the region, urging the government to release their pending wages before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Despite the formation of a committee to address their demands, Yaseen stressed that the process will take time, and immediate financial relief is necessary for daily wagers working in various departments, including National Health Mission (NHM) and ASHA workers.
“These workers are the backbone of essential services, and it is painful to see them protesting daily for their rightful dues,” Yaseen said in a statement, adding that ensuring timely wages is not just policy but a matter of dignity and well-being.
He called on the administration led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to prioritize the issue and ensure that the workers do not suffer financial hardship during the festive season.
“The government must act swiftly to release pending wages and implement minimum wage standards as per Union Territory norms. Thousands of families are struggling, and further delay will only add to their distress,” Yaseen warned.
Emphasizing that sectors like health, sanitation, and public services depend heavily on daily wagers, he urged the government to adopt a humane approach and resolve their grievances without delay. [KNT]
