Kulgam, 24 March 2025: In a remarkable achievement, District Hospital Kulgam (DH Kulgam) has successfully conducted its first-ever Total Hip Replacement surgery under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme. This landmark procedure was performed by a team of skilled doctors led by Dr. Towseef Ahmad Bhat, Consultant Orthopaedician, with assistance from Dr. Abid and Dr. Danish.
The anaesthesia and critical care team was spearheaded by Dr. Omer Bashir, Consultant Anaesthesia, and was supported by dedicated technicians including Shabir Ahmad, Rifat Abdullah, Farooq Ahmad, and other vital support staff. The entire surgical process was carried out under the careful supervision of Dr. A.G. Raina, Medical Superintendent of DH Kulgam, who ensured both logistical and moral support throughout the operation.
The patient, a 47-year-old female, suffered from severe osteoarthritis of the right hip, which caused significant pain and difficulty in walking. The successful surgery, which would normally cost between Rs. 2 to 2.5 lakh in a private setup, was performed at absolutely no cost to the patient, thanks to the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for DH Kulgam, reflecting the growing capabilities of government healthcare facilities to provide high-quality medical services to the public under the AB-PMJAY initiative.
