Budgam, June 3: The College of Temperate Sericulture (CoTS), Mirgund, SKUAST-Kashmir, successfully conducted a One Day Awareness-cum-Silkworm Rearing Item Distribution Programme under the NABARD-funded project titled “Intervention of Newly Developed Low-Cost Sericulture Technologies for Income Augmentation and Employment Generation in Sericulture Areas of Central and South Kashmir.” The programme was organized across various locations in Sangrampora, Beerwah, and Churmujura of Budgam district.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Khursheed, Principal Investigator (PI) of the project, who briefed the participants on the project’s objectives and scope. He emphasized the importance of adopting modern, cost-effective sericulture technologies to enhance income and generate employment opportunities, particularly in the rural areas of Kashmir.
Ms. Purnima Ji, District Officer, NABARD Budgam, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. In her address, she praised the initiative and emphasized its potential for socio-economic upliftment, especially among women farmers, who formed a significant part of the audience. She assured continued support from NABARD to strengthen the livelihoods of silkworm rearers in the region.
A live demonstration of silkworm rearing equipment and practices was conducted to give beneficiaries hands-on experience and a better understanding of the technologies promoted through the project.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Farhat Iqbal, Scientist at CoTS, SKUAST-Kashmir. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries, guests, and participants for their enthusiastic involvement and support in making the programme a grand success.
