Potushai, Lolab June 27 — A significant cleanliness drive was carried out today in Potushai, jointly organized by Potushai Volunteers Group led by Tareeq Lone and Basharat Gani, in collaboration with the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sogam. The initiative focused on promoting environmental cleanliness and public health awareness in the area.

As part of the program, three key public locations—including the local market—were thoroughly cleaned by over 30 enthusiastic participants, including students and local residents. The initiative aimed to foster community responsibility and environmental consciousness among the public.

Simultaneously, a specialized team from SDH Sogam, headed by Dr. Ashiq Hussain, conducted an awareness campaign under the Anti-Diarrhea Program. The team educated the inhabitants of Potushai about preventive measures to combat diarrheal diseases, especially during the summer season when water-borne illnesses are more prevalent.

To further support public health, the medical team distributed Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) and Zinc tablets to the local population, emphasizing the importance of early treatment and prevention.

Shopkeepers and local vendors were also sensitized during the program and advised to avoid dumping non-biodegradable and other solid waste materials in public spaces and along riverbanks to prevent environmental degradation and health hazards.

Speaking on the occasion, Tareeq Lone and Basharat Gani expressed gratitude to BMO Sogam and SDH Sogam for their cooperation and underscored the importance of collective community efforts in ensuring a clean and healthy environment.

The program concluded with a call to action for all residents to maintain cleanliness and adopt hygienic practices to safeguard both public health and the natural beauty of the region.
