Kupwara, July 10: A massive fire broke out on Thursday morning in a residential house in Mughalpora area of Kupwara district, resulting in significant property damage.
The blaze, which reportedly originated from the top floor of the house belonging to Mohammad Sadiq Bhat, engulfed the structure rapidly. According to eyewitnesses, no one was present there when the fire started, which delayed the initial response and allowed the flames to spread.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel reached the spot swiftly and managed to prevent the fire from spreading more. However, despite their timely intervention, the roof, walls, ceiling (pop), and flooring suffered severe damage.
Preliminary estimates suggest a huge financial loss, with the owner claiming that cash worth approximately ₹10 lakh was also gutted in the incident.
Locals mentioned that the fire intensified quickly due to the structure and materials used in the upper story, making it difficult to control in the initial stages.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but the incident has left the Bhat family in distress due to the extensive loss.
Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
