Srinagar, Sept 21: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that peace is the foundation of development, tourism, and sports, but its responsibility does not lie with his government anymore.

Speaking to media persons in Srinagar during a sports event, CM Omar as per news agency JKNS said, “At least there is something for which we cannot be blamed. Maintaining peace is not the responsibility of my government at present. Yet, our government is often targeted for everything. If peace is missing, then it must be ensured, because peace is the base for every aspect of life development, tourism, and sports.”

CM Omar added that the message of the sports event, where a special T-shirt was released by Real Kashmir, was also one of peace and harmony.

“If the atmosphere is not peaceful, who will come in the evening to play a day-night match? For everything, we need peace. The responsibility lies with those in charge, and they must fulfill it,” he said.

CM Omar was responding to a remark made by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday, in which he said terrorism has not been eliminated completely and some activities continue in parts of Karnataka, Kerala, and certain regions of Jammu and Kashmir.

“I have always maintained that where terrorism exists, there is potential for greater danger. Its elimination cannot be left to the police or security forces alone, society as a whole must take part,” LG had said. (JKNS)
