Budgam, Sept 25: Senior religious and political leader and President of Anjuman-E-Sharie Shian, Aga Syed Hassan Al-Mosavi Al-Safvi, on Thursday strongly condemned what he described as repression and hardships unleashed against the people of Ladakh. He cautioned that continued neglect of their political and developmental aspirations is fueling growing resentment across the region.
In a statement issued to the media, Aga Syed Hassan said that the people of Ladakh have been consistently pushed to the margins despite their long-standing struggle for rights and safeguards. He emphasized that issues concerning livelihood, land protection, cultural identity, and political representation require urgent attention from the authorities.
“The people of Ladakh have always stood for peace, harmony, and coexistence, but they are being pushed to the wall by policies that disregard their rights and aspirations. Such repression is unacceptable and must stop immediately,” he asserted.
Highlighting the essence of democracy, Aga Syed Hassan remarked that no democratic society can afford to silence citizens through force or repressive measures. “A democratic system cannot justify violence and suppression as a response to legitimate demands,” he noted.
Expressing solidarity with the people of Ladakh, he urged the Government of India to initiate meaningful and sincere dialogue with local stakeholders. “Engagement through constructive dialogue is the only way to ensure justice and restore confidence among the people. Suppression will only deepen alienation,” he said.
The Shia cleric also appealed to civil society groups, human rights organizations, and the media to raise the concerns of the people of Ladakh. “Their grievances are genuine and deserve to be heard. Silence and indifference will only add to their sense of betrayal,” he added.
