Budgam, Oct 29: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate from Budgam, Advocate Agha Muntazir Mehdi, has accused the National Conference (NC) of rejecting a key land-related bill to appease its political ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He termed the move as “a betrayal of public trust” and an act against the interests of farmers and the poor.
Speaking to reporters in Budgam, Agha Mehdi said the rejection of the bill has exposed what he described as a “hidden understanding” between the NC and the BJP. “The National Conference has once again played with public sentiments for the sake of power. Its decision to scrap land rights is nothing short of an injustice to the farmers and the underprivileged,” he remarked.
He alleged that the NC’s stand on the land bill reflected a double standard, claiming that the party was siding with the BJP on issues that directly affect the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “The NC-BJP nexus is now visible to everyone,” Agha Mehdi said.
The PDP leader asserted that his party remains committed to protecting the rights of ordinary citizens, particularly those dependent on land for livelihood. “The PDP stands as a guardian of public interests and will not allow any conspiracy against land laws. People must remain vigilant against such hypocritical politics,” he added. [KNT]
