This will be first major review of J&K’s security situation of this year and comes amidst series of search operations launched by security forces in mountains and far off areas of the Jammu region to track down the terrorists including foreigners.

Officials told the Excelsior that a strategy to eliminate terrorists hiding in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and ensure zero infiltration from the borders will be discussed among other security-related issues of the UT.

They said Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and top police and civil officers of Jammu and Kashmir including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat and Intelligence chief Nitish Kumar will attend the meeting among others. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and heads of all paramilitary forces and Intelligence agencies too will join.

Senior officers are expected to brief the Home Minister about various aspects of the situation including the steps taken during winters to ensure zero infiltration on the borders with Pakistan and eliminate the hiding terrorists in mountainous areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

During past few months, security forces have engaged terrorists in number of gun battles in upper reaches of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur and other districts of the region. Besides, the infiltration attempts by the terrorists have been foiled on the borders with Pakistan.

However, there were reports that the terrorists have been waiting both across the Line of Control (LoC) as well as International Border (IB) for infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir with the help of Pakistan army and other agencies across the border.

Security forces have been able to secure zero infiltration during the winters and they will like to keep it to nil, the sources said.–(Daily Excelsior)
