Shopian, July 27: In a significant step towards preserving Jammu and Kashmir’s rich architectural and cultural heritage, the Government has sanctioned ₹6.05 crore for the revival and restoration of the historic Jamia Masjid Sharief in Shopian.
The restoration project will be undertaken on heritage lines with the objective of conserving the mosque’s unique architectural identity while ensuring the protection of its historical and cultural significance for future generations.
Jamia Masjid Sharief, one of the oldest and most prominent religious landmarks in Shopian, is renowned for its traditional Kashmiri architecture and deep-rooted historical importance. The sanctioned project is expected to focus on structural conservation, restoration of heritage features, and preservation of the mosque’s original character.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the Union Territory’s historic monuments and promoting the conservation of cultural heritage. Once completed, the restoration is expected to enhance the longevity of the iconic mosque while maintaining its authenticity and architectural grandeur.
