Kashmir is an open air prison where no one has the right to express their opinion: Mehbooba Mufti
Authorities on Friday thwarted PDP chief Mehooba Mufti’s attempt to address a pre scheduled presser by disallowing media persons from entering her Gupkar residence in Srinagar.
According to news agency KDC, PDP had extended an invitation to the press to reach her residence at Gupkaar in Srinagar on Friday afternoon to attend a press conference by her where she was expected to talk about DDC elections and recent developments regarding alleged crackdown against political opponents of ruling BJP.
Mehbooba tweeted that ‘‘Press has been barred from entering my residence in Srinagar. This despite no written orders explaining my arbitrary detention. Kashmir is an open air prison where no one has the right to express their opinion”.
“We are one day away from DDC polling & it’s evident that the admin here is using fear & intimidation in tandem to muffle any form of opposition”. She said in another tweet.
Pertinently, Mehooba Mufti had very strongly condemned the harassment of political leaders in general and arrest of party youth leader Waheed Parra by the NIA.
As per schedule dozens of media persons arrived at Mufti’s residence on Friday afternoon, however they were denied entry by a large contingent of police and other paramilitary forces which had already blocked the gate of her residence.
Prior to this Mehooba Mufti had claimed that she had been restricted to her house and was not allowed to venture out to visit Pulwama where according to her she was scheduled to meet detained party leader Waheed Parra’s family.
