Rajouri, Feb 14: The Science Club and National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Govt. P.G. College Rajouri organized one day National Seminar on “New World, New Radio” to mark World Radio Day here on Saturday.

Ghulam Abass, Deputy Director, (M&C), PIB, GOI, Srinagar was Chief Guest whereas Hassan Perwaz, Senior Broadcaster, All India Radio Jammu and Bharam Prakash, Senior Journalist from New Delhi were resource persons. Principal of College, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina presided over the function.

In his keynote address, Ghulam Abass detailed about the evolution, innovation and career avenues linked with the Radio Journalism. It’s a most promising mass medium that is becoming increasingly relevant with every passing day, and students and youth should opt this amazing profession, he added. Hassan Perwaz highlighted the contribution radio has made throughout its 110 years journey and lauded role of UNESCO in celebrating it on world level for past 10 years as World Radio Day. He said that there is need of greater connection among the radio lovers and society at large to carry forward its journey within the ever changing and hi-tech world. Bharam Prakash, spoke via zoom on the emergence of community Radio and its role in addressing local issues and preserving culture and languages. Prof. Shakeel Raina in his presidential address said that Radio is a clean and controlled media that reaches with utmost efficiency where no other media can reach. Radio is a complete source of information, entertainment and innovation, and students and youth should get maximum benefit from its numerous programmes. He appreciated the organizers for taking initiative for such unique programme for the first time in college history. Prof. Iqbal Raina also spoke on the occasion.

The Students of college and NSS Volunteers including Vishupreet Singh, Humera Mirza, Shabina, Aftab Aatish, Rafina Akhter, Wahida Malik and Zakir Hussain delivered speeches on various aspects of Radio and its relevance in today’s world.

Earlier, Dr. Naseem Ahmed Malik, NSS Programme Officer and Convener of Seminar, welcomed the guests whereas Dr. Ashaq Malik, Secretary of Science Club, introduced the audience about the programme. NSS Volunteer Shabina Choudhary conducted the proceedings and Prof. Supriya Gupta, NSS Programme Officer and Organizing Secretary on event, presented the formal vote of thanks. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr. Anwer Shah, Prof. Sadeeq Choudhary, Prof. Asad Ullah Khan, Prof. Zamir Mirza, Dr. Mohd Sajar, Dr. Taseem Ahmed and Dr. Akhlaq Malik.
