Srinagar, May 19: While the government has imposed a strict lockdown for more than three weeks in view of surge in Covid-19 cases, the parents of those wards studying in private schools on Tuesday appealed the LG administration to issue directions to private schools to curtail the tuition and transportation fee.

The parents told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they have not earned a single penny during the ongoing and previous Covid-19 lockdown and can’t afford to pay the tuition fee and other charges.

One of the parents Manzoor Ahmad, who have been working as a daily wager said, “Barring few months, it has been nearly three years in Kashmir since the government has imposed lockdown and curfews.”

Ahmad said, “In 2019, almost half of the year was under curfew following the abrogation of Article-370 and the persons who were affected the most were from middle class families who either were earning their livelihood by working as a daily wagers and were working in some private sectors.”

Another parent said that he has not earned much to pay the tuition and other charges since March-2020 when the virus outbreak in Kashmir that compelled the government to impose a lockdown for more than five months.

He said that the LG administration should consider the compulsions of the parents and should issue some directives to the private schools to provide any sort of relief to the parents.

Meanwhile, repeated attempts to reach out to the president of private school association of Jammu and Kashmir, G N Var didn’t fructify—(KNO)
