Srinagar, Jul 09: As the preparations for Eid-al-Adha are going on, camels have once again been put on sale in various parts of Kashmir while a small section of people are opting the animal for the sacrifice.

Ahead of Eid-al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice, camels are being sold in different parts, however, the sacrifice of camels is still very rare in Kashmir because of its non-availability in Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the dealers said that though the sacrifice of camels in Kashmir is very rare, the trend is increasing and more people are opting for camels instead of sheep and goats.

Ghulam Mohidin, a butcher from Khrew area of Pulwama district said that he has brought two camels a few days before and he has already sold one.

“If demand will increase, I will bring more camels,” he said

Mohidin said that camel meat of camel is a little bit costly than that of ox or cow, however, it is much cheaper than that of sheep and goat.

Camel popularly known as the ship of desert, for the past few years have become regular attractions ahead of Eid-al-Adha in Parimpora and other parts of Kashmir.

Camel sellers said that people here are curious to eat camel meat due to religious significance as Holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) used to consume it.
