Srinagar, Jul 19: Amid relaxation in Covid-19 lockdown, Srinagar witnessed huge rush of people on Monday to shop for Eid-ul-Azha, likely to be celebrated on July 21.

According to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) bakeries, confectioneries witnessed huge rush of customers. However, outlets dealing with clothing including footwear saw a moderate flow of buyers.

“Even though we can see rush all around, not many are buying as compared to the previous Eid’s before the pandemic,” a shopkeeper said.

A large folk of women were seen busy shopping for groceries to cook delicious food to celebrate Eid.

The roadside vendors had also set up stalls in the city, but were not satisfied with the sales as per their expectations.

“However, this year, the demand for sacrificial animals is shrink as compared to previous years due Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing general trade depression “a animal seller said

Meanwhile, Kashmir Retailers Association (KRA) has hailed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for giving “humanitarian relaxation” for Eid shopping in the Valley amid Covid restrictions.

In a statement issued to the KNO, KRA President Farhan Kitab said, “the retail sector has been trying hard to cope with the slings and arrows of the Covid19 pandemic, which caused irreparable damage to business.”—(KNO)
