Srinagar, July 29: In 2014 Srinagar Acid Attack case, Special Investigation Team headed by a top police officer recorded his statement amid cross examination by the counsel of the duo accused.

Pertinently, on December 11, 2015, a 22-year-old law student was grievously injured in the acid attack outside Kashmir law College at Nowshera in the outskirts of Srinagar city. The incident evoked protests and condemnations across Valley prompting police to constitute a Special Investigation Team headed by a top police officer Rayees Muhammad Bhat who is currently district police chief Baramulla.

It was only after a fortnight following the attack, that police arrested the accused duo Irshad Ahmad Wani, alias Sunny, and Muhammad Omar for their alleged involvement in the incident.

The police has sought punishment for the accused on three counts under Sections 326-A (voluntary throwing acid to cause grievous injury), 120-B-9 (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

If proven, these sections can get of rigorous imprisonment for 10 years, which can be extended up to life imprisonment.

News agency Kashmir News Trust has learnt that SIT Chief today recorded his statement in the court of Principle District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Akram Chowdary.

The statement was recorded amid cross examination by the Counsel of the two accused.
