Bilqees Ara by donating blood generously, has saved more than a Dozen lives in the last 9 years across the North Kashmir .

Bilqees feels that it is the duty of every healthy person to donate blood. “I want to donate blood till the end of my life. We would anyway provide first aid ” she says.

Showcasing spirit of womanhood at the frontline, Bilqees, The savior of many lives, Kupwara ASHA worker sets example, donates blood 25 times.

Bilqees Ara an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker from Gundchabotra village of Kralgund Tehsil has set an example for people by donating blood for twenty four times during last nine years and thus saving number of lives.

Bilqees a young woman has been working in health department since January 2012 as ASHA worker and the importance of donating blood has dawned on her when after few months of her appointment a pregnant woman needed blood desperately.

“I still remember when a pregnant lady of our locality whom I had accompanied to District Hospital Handwara for delivery. During her delivery a desperate need of blood arose and since no male from her family was present that time, I rose to the occasion and donated blood for the first time,” said Bilqees.
Bilqees happens to be a regular and registered blood donor at District Hospital Handwara where she has donated blood more than twelve times so far. She has also donated blood at Sub District Hospital Kupwara and LD Srinagar on several times.

“I am a registered blood donor, whenever a need arises the officials at Blood Bank DH Handwara call me and within the shortest span of time I make myself available to donate blood,” she said.

The officials at Blood Bank Handwara acknowledged the fact that with Bilqees setting the trend, several women volunteers have come forward and are regular blood donors.
Bilqees says that when women are moving parallel to men in each and every field then how they can lag behind in donating blood. She yearns that more and more women should come forward for the noble cause of donating blood.

Bilqees also happens to be an active Covid warrior who always remains on forefront to deal with the situation. Since the Covid vaccination drive started across Kashmir she has persuaded hundreds to take the Covid vaccine.
She feels that God gifted her with the blood group of universal donors, A+, and that is enough reason for her to serve humanity. “When there was no mobile connectivity in Kashmir, I would wait for radio announcements by hospitals seeking blood,” Bilqees beams with pride.
