6% students in J&K Govt schools had no textbooks in 2021: ASER

Srinagar, Nov 25: Much to the embarrassment of the education department, the fresh Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) report has revealed that six per cent of the students enrolled in government schools across Jammu and Kashmir had no textbooks for their current grade.

According to the report, only 94 percent of the students studying in government schools were having textbooks in the current grade during 2021.

The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), reads that among both private and government schools, a total of 95.1 percent of the students were having textbooks for their current grade that includes 94 percent among government school students and 97 percent of private schools.

ASER in the recently published report further said that in the year 2018, a total of 96.4 percent of students in Jammu and Kashmir were having textbooks.

In the year, only 95.7 per cent of students enrolled in government-run-schools were having textbooks while in the private schools of Jammu and Kashmir around 97.3 percent of students were having textbooks during the academic year.

In an overall percentage across India, the ASER report says that in the year 2021, a total of 91.9 percent of students enrolled were having textbooks for their current grade that includes 92.3 percent from government and 90.7 percent from private schools—(KNO)
