Kulgam, Dec 10: The residents of Kilam village in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district Friday staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to repair two electric transformers of the village despite the passage of over three weeks.
The protesters, mostly women assembled at Mirbazar-Phaloo road at Kilam and chanted slogans against the Power Development Department.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), they demanded authorities to repair their two damaged transformers at an earliest.
Waseem Ahmad, a local of the area told KNO that the 250 KV and 63 KV transformer in the area developed some technical snags three times in three weeks and since then they are reeling under darkness while PDD has failed to repair their damaged transformers.
He said that without supply of electricity, the students are suffering a lot as they have been preparing for their ongoing board exams these days.
The locals have appealed to the higher authorities to look into the matter—(KNO)
