Srinagar, Mar 16: An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Nowgam area of Srinagar district on Wednesday, police said.
Acting on specific inputs about the presence of militants in Nowgam area of Srinagar, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there, a police official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)
The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the forces, who retaliated.
The exchange of fire was going on and further details were awaited, the official added.
Railway authorities told KNO that the train services have also been suspended from Banihal to Baramulla as a precautionary measure—(KNO)
