Srinagar, Jun 11: Despite the frequent rainfall in Kashmir parts from the last couple of days, Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 84 per cent deficient rainfall since June 01-08.
According to the data available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), J&K has recorded 84 per cent deficient rainfall since June 01-June 08 while Ganderbal district in central Kashmir has recorded 100 per cent deficient rainfall.
The data prepared by the Meteorological department reveals that Kupwara has recorded 99 per cent deficient rainfall while Ramban, Pulwama, Srinagar and Bandipora districts have recorded 98 per cent deficient rainfall in the first eight days of this month.
The lowest in the list are Anantnag and Baramulla districts where 62 and 57 per cent respectively deficient rainfall was recorded since June 01.
Besides the deficient rainfall, the heat wave has gripped many parts of Kashmir this year and Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir is not the coolest place than other cities of the country as the mercury settled above heat wave point several times in the past over a month.
The officials in the Meteorological department said that the temperature in Srinagar settled above 30 degrees Celsius several times in the past month.
On June 06, Srinagar recorded the season’s hottest day at 31.4 degree Celsius while on May 20 and June 07, it recorded 31.3 degrees Celsius.
An independent weather forecaster, Faizan Arif Keng told KNO the temperature in March and April settled mostly above normal and slightly above normal in May.
He said that it is expected June will remain cooler than previous months.
Keng further stated that Jammu and Kashmir saw record-breaking temperatures this March as many stations broke their all-time highest maximum temperature records and said that March month was the warmest in Srinagar since at least 1892—(KNO)
