Srinagar, May 20: The Special Court for UAPA Offences designated under NIA Act, Srinagar framed charges against a senior Hurriyat leader in a terrorist financing case in which three accused were chargesheeted by State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir earlier this month.

In a statement to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com, the agency said during the course of investigation of case FIR No 22/2022 Police Station SIA/CIK Kashmir, State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir has been able to trace the foundations and nodes of terrorist folds which have been hatching innovative conspiracies to keep the pot of terrorism boiling in the UT by way of raising and circulating funds.

They said the investigation team has been able to touch the nerves of nefarious elements involved in various overt and covert acts of propaganda and criminal proliferation at the international level to overawe the government machinery and harm the unity, sovereignty, integrity and security of India. “Prime accused Bashir Ahmad Mir @Moulvi Bashir Irfani S/O Late Mohammad Rehamtullah Mir R/O Nathpora Bandipora, A/P Alochabagh Srinagar, a hard core propagandist and conspirator, General Secretary Hurriyat Conference (G) and Chairman, ‘Shabba-Ul- Muslameen’, has been found involved in receiving and holding proceeds of terrorism in the shape of hefty amounts of Indian National currency which has been recovered from his possession.”

The accused has hatched a criminal design to rejuvenate terrorism in the UT and disturb the peaceful environment in the UT, the anti terror agency said according to Kashmir Dot Com. The accused has been found involved in incentivising prospective members to spread the tentacles of criminal plots in various districts of the UT to broaden the membership grid, they said.

“Two accused have also been found hobnobbing with ISI of Pakistan for having patronage and logical support in carrying out terrorist activities in the UT of J&K. Besides raising funds the accused has been found instrumental in spreading anti- India propaganda outside India besides promoting disaffection among the peaceful Public particularly impressionable youth.”

The charge sheet has been produced in the Court of Special Judge designated under NIA Act Srinagar under various provisions of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967, as amended on 3 May 2023. It is pertinent to mention here that the investigation of the case has been completed within six months’ time and the charges in the said case have been framed within a fortnight period, the statement added.
