As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the experts said that it is essential to take extra care of the eyes, as increased exposure to the sun, dust, and pollution can lead to various eye conditions, which if left untreated can result in serious eye problems.

Dr Pranav Gupta, Senior Ophthalmologist and ex- Consultant at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu very often people forget to protect their eyes and focus only on skin and other parts of the body but direct skin exposure can damage the eyes too.

“Eyes are a priceless gift of nature which should not only be taken care of but also checked regularly,” the doctor said.

He said the lifestyle also plays a very crucial role in eye health.

“With the passage of time, the routines of human life have changed, earlier there was only TV but now in the era of digital media, mobile phones have increased the screen time in the hands of every human being, and due to work or entertainment, eye-related diseases are emerging due to staring at the computer or mobile phone all the time,” he said.

He said nowadays it has been observed that children from very early are addicted to mobile phones and with passage of time they develop sighting issues.

“Children at very early age use phones, which is detrimental to their eye health, as proper eyesight develops after eight years of age and parents must ensure that children below this age should not use phones for watching videos,” the doctor said.

He further added that one of the biggest eye problems that almost everyone faces is the redness of the eyes, which is usually caused by smoking but it can also be a sign of an eye-related disease.

“Eye redness or infection is now common and every tenth person is affected by it which is mainly due to our lifestyle and carelessness but sometimes it can also be due to an infection,” he said adding, “Many people ignore the redness of the eyes, but if the eyes become red and have a yellow discharge along with irritation, it can also be the cause of an eye-related disease and instead of ignoring it, a specialist doctor should be consulted immediately.”

He also said that using inferior or harmful beauty caused Blepharitis, which an eye disease is caused by bacteria. He said that bleeding in the eyes is one of the symptoms of high blood pressure, medically known as subconjunctival hemorrhage, in which a small blood vessel near the surface of the eye bursts.

It can also be caused by straining the eyes during coughing and sneezing, head or eye injuries, rubbing the eyes, and wearing contact lenses for long periods of time.

He also said that patients with diabetic background shall go for regular eye checkup, so that their issues get resolved at curable stage—(KNO)
