Srinagar, November 17:Deputy Inspector General of Police South Kashmir Rayees Mohammad Bhat (IPS) on Friday said that five local Lashkar-i-Toiba militants were killed in a joint operation in Samno Village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

In a press conference DIG South Kashmir Rayees Mohammad Bhat said that five militants were killed in joint operation carried by Kulgam Police and Army’s 34RR based on a specific input.

The DIG identified the slain militants as Yasir Bilal Ahmad Bhat @Humais son of Bilal Ahmad Bhat resident of KH Raina Wanpoh, Danish Hameed son of Abdul Hameed, Ubaid Ahmad Padder sob of Wali Mihd Padder, both residents of Chakoora Shopian, Sameer Sheikh son of Farooq Ahmad resident of Chak Cholend Shopian and Hanzal Yaqoob Shah son of Mohd Yaqoob Shah resident of Rawalpora Shopian. All the militants were associated with Lashkar-i-Toiba oufit.

The DIG further said that these slain militants were involved in many attacks on police, SFs and civilians. They were also involved in number of attacks on Minority pickets.

The slain militant Sameer Farooq and Danish Hameed were involved in attack on Pandith Sonu Bhat of Chotigamz Shopian, he officer said.

Danish Hameed along with Hanzala Yaqoob Shah were involved in attack on outside labourers at Gagren, Shopian on 13th July this year, in which 3 outside labourers were injured.

Slain militant Farooq Sheikh was involved ub instigating and Luring locals to join militancy besides was involved in attacking Minority pickets.

DIG, giving details about recovery said that 4 AK series of rifles, 04 grenades and 2 pistols were recovered from the slain militants.(GNS)
