Srinagar, Feb 12: A husband-wife duo from Srinagar has achieved success in managing a trout fish farm in the Harwan area.

Founded by Sadia Iman, an MSc graduate in organic chemistry from Bangalore, alongside her husband Adil Akram Wani, who holds an engineering degree, they have successfully produced an impressive twenty tons of ‘Trout Fishes’ over the past four years, building a loyal customer base.

Sharing their journey with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Sadia said, “I got married in Kashmir and now live in Harwan, Srinagar with my in-laws. While searching for jobs, it was always in my mind to be an entrepreneur. I thought of this idea about establishing a trout farm here in the Harwan area, and my husband and in-laws helped me in doing that.”

We saw an advertisement from the Department of Fisheries, and with the help of the Blue Revolution scheme and PMSSY schemes, we started with two units, she said. “Alhamdulillah, we now have a big fish farm today.”

The couple named it the ‘Mountain Trout Farm’ as it is situated on the left side of the mountain in the Harwan area. Sadia said they are using modern technology to grow the farm.

“When we established the farm in 2019, it was a challenging time, especially with marketing and other aspects. Initially, we did not have much knowledge, which was a drawback. However, after researching and gaining knowledge, we are Alhamdulillah successful today,” she said.

Today, after four to five years, we have produced about twenty tonnes of trout, and we have also built a loyal customer base, she added.

Sadia said they received a very good, response from people. “Being from Bangalore and getting married here in Kashmir, I don’t know anyone else except my in-laws, but the people here are very helpful and supportive,” she said, adding that there is great creativity in young minds.

“Go out, work hard, and achieve your goals,” she said in her message to aspiring entrepreneurs—(KNO)
