Srinagar, May 14: The selfless acts of a young lady from north Kashmir has touched countless lives as she emerged as a beacon of hope in her community through the spirit of generosity by donating over 35 units of blood so far.

Bilqees Ara (34), wife of Tariq Ahmad Naikoo of Gundchubutara Langate in Handwara area of Kupwara district has been donating 3-4 units of blood every year.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Bilqees Ara said that she donated her first unit of blood in 2012 and since then she has been donating it regularly.

On asking how she got an idea of donating blood, Ara said that she first donated blood for her cousin when she was pregnant and no male member was around at that time as her husband was outside the valley.

“This incident brought an idea in my mind that there might be hundreds of such people, who may need blood during emergencies even when their loved ones won’t be around and that day I decided to donate my blood further,” she said.

Bilqees has been a consistent donor, visiting blood banks and donation camps regularly to contribute her share towards saving lives. Her unwavering commitment and compassion have earned her the title of “The blood woman of Kashmir” among her peers and the local community.

“Since then I have donated a total of 35 units of blood and I am going to donate the 36th unit of blood in the coming month,” she said.

Bilqees said that donating blood not only gives satisfaction, peace of mind and happiness but also helps to keep yourself fit as tests on a regular basis are conducted that informs you about all levels in your body.

She said that she was offered money several times for donation but she rejected it.

Ara in her message said that women shouldn’t fear donating blood and they must come forward and donate blood generously so as to save the lives of people.

In a world often overshadowed by darkness, Ara shines brightly as a symbol of humanity’s innate goodness and generosity—(KNO)
