Srinagar, May 20: Srinagar’s Gasoo area in Hazratbal area is abuzz with activity as the strawberry harvesting season kicks off, marking a period of vibrant agricultural activity and economic optimism for local farmers.
The lush green fields adorned with ripe, red strawberries offer a delightful sight, attracting not just locals but also visitors eager to partake in the seasonal bounty.
As per the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), farmers in Gasoo are not particularly optimistic this year, citing bad weather conditions that have not led to a high-quality yield.
Ali Mohammad, a seasoned strawberry farmer, shared his experiences with the adversities faced saying, “This season has been quite difficult, as the weather was not on our side, and many of our crops were affected.”
“But we are doing our best with what we have. The strawberries may not be as large or plentiful, but they are still of good quality,” he said.
Jibran, a local from the area, said they understand the challenges farmers have faced this year due to climate change.
Presently, the strawberry season, though marred by unfavorable weather, continues to be a vital period for the local economy. The harvest still provides crucial employment opportunities, and the farmers’ perseverance is a source of inspiration for many.
Arsalan, another farmer from the area, said strawberry farming is an important part of their economy.
He said though the yield is low this year, they are hopeful that with community support, they can still see through the season. “It’s been tough, but we are resilient,” he added—(KNO)
