Anantnag, Jun 07: After nearly fourteen years in the making, the flyover at Shamsipora on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has been opened for vehicular traffic. This development is expected to improve traffic management and reduce congestion in the area.

Aehsan Andrabi, the Project Manager, informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the Shamsipora flyover, which cost approximately Rs 30 crore and spans 74 metres (with a total length of 800 meters including the approach), has been officially opened for traffic today.

The construction of the flyover began in 2014 but faced numerous delays due to various factors.

“The completion of the flyover will enhance connectivity along this stretch and will be particularly beneficial for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra traffic flow,” another official stated.

Previously, traffic in the area was frequently halted due to the Shamsipora railway crossing, causing significant delays. With the new flyover, travellers will no longer have to wait for trains to pass, greatly improving travel times.

In addition to the Shamsipora flyover, another flyover at Dalwatch (Chaimulla) was opened for traffic a few months ago. The highway is also being repainted in preparation for the Amarnath Yatra, the official added—(KNO)
