Bandipora, Jun 26 : The favouritism and corruption in education department in Bandipora has left Education Department in Bandipora shambles and the CEO office has violated the government orders and allowed more than two dozen teachers to work in other departments or non teaching assignments.

Official sources reveal that these two dozen “favourite” Teachers are literally running the department by using their influence in offices where they have been deputed including in CEO and ZEO offices. Many such teachers have even managed to get Best Teachers Awards while they haven’t attended any class in schools.

As per the details accessed by Kashmir News Service (KNS), many teachers have been assigned to various offices of other departments for several years, leaving several schools in the area grappling with staff shortages.

While at the same time teachers in far-flung areas of the district have continued to perform their duties despite the challenges. However, those in the plains, particularly in urban areas, are frequently transferring from one nearby school to another, avoiding longer-term assignments in more remote locations. The inconsistency is creating a disparity in educational quality and access across the district.

Officials expressed surprise over the time bound promotions being availed by such teachers while they haven’t attended classes. “Who gave them necessary certificates and NOCs when they haven’t attended schools for years?,” Ask teachers alleging favourtism and corruption part can not be ruled out from such illegal practices.

Principal Secretary School Education Department, Alok Kumar, talking to KNS committed to looking into the matter. “I will look into the matter and if it is so, i will ensure that appropriate actions are taken to correct these misallocations,” Kumar said.

One of the Parent told KNS that having qualified teachers consistently present in the classroom is essential for students’ academic success. Administrative duties should be handled by non-teaching staff to ensure that teachers can focus on their primary role—educating students, he said.

I am hopeful that swift action will be taken to rectify the situation, ensuring that all students in Bandipora receive the quality education they deserve, he added.

The Chief Education Officer Dr G M Pujoo has acknowledged the issue and assured that it will be addressed. “We will take the necessary steps to resolve it,” he said.
