Qazigund, June 28: The first batch of pilgrims for the Amaranth Yatra arrived at the Navyug tunnel in Qazigund on Friday morning.
An official told that the first batch of 4603 pilgrims was welcomed by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam Athar Amir Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam Sahil Sarangal, and other civil and police officials.
“They are travelling in small and big vehicles comprising 231 vehicles escorted by heavy security” , according to him.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Amir Khan, told the media that “today we greeted pilgrims at Qazigund who are in a convoy. The pilgrims have now proceeded to their goal.
Our security arrangements are in place. As per need, extra deployment has been made at places”, he said.
The Yatra began earlier today from Jammu where Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha flagged them from the Amarnath Yatra base camp amid tight security arrangements made by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with the army and the local police.
On this occasion, DC along with SSP and locals flagged them off towards Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The 62-day Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to start from 29th June and continue till August 19.
