Srinagar, October 12: The National Conference (NC) is poised to introduce fresh faces in its upcoming cabinet while placing senior leaders in key roles for the development of the party across Jammu and Kashmir. Sources close to the NC leadership told that the party is adopting a broad vision for future leadership, aiming to build a robust organizational structure.

A senior party insider revealed that the NC is planning to divide responsibilities in a balanced manner, giving the first half of the five-year term to younger leaders while preparing senior leaders for strategic roles in party development. “This is a clear indication that the party is willing to give newer and younger faces a chance in governance,” the source said. “After the first half, the leadership will reassess, and it will be the turn of others, particularly the experienced leaders, to take over.”

It is expected that Omar Abdullah, the party’s chief ministerial candidate, will head the cabinet which will consist of nine ministers. Notably, one of these positions will be given to an ally from the Congress, solidifying the alliance between the two parties.

The cabinet’s composition will ensure equitable representation from all three regions of Kashmir—north, south, and central. Among the expected new faces are rising stars such as Kaiser Hameed Lone from north Kashmir and Farooq Ahmed Shah from Tangmarg. These young leaders are expected to bring fresh energy and ideas to the table. Meanwhile, experienced politicians like Shameema Firdous and Majeed Larmi are expected to continue playing vital roles within the party structure, driving growth and development behind the scenes.

In a bid to maintain regional balance, the NC is also keen on appointing ministers from Jammu and the Chenab Valley, further strengthening its foothold in these regions. The selection of representatives from diverse geographical areas underscores the NC’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing opportunities for leaders across the state.

The focus on injecting youth into the government while allowing senior members to consolidate the party’s base could serve as a forward-thinking strategy for NC ahead of upcoming electoral challenges. With Omar Abdullah expected to lead this youthful cabinet, the party hopes to revitalize its image and address the aspirations of the younger electorate while ensuring the political wisdom of its seasoned leaders is not lost.
