Srinagar– G.M. Shaheen, the Party President, has appealed to Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha and Union Power and NRE Minister Shri R.K. Singh regarding the critical power situation in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. As economic growth and increased electrification have led to a surge in power demand, Shaheen highlighted that the current demand has reached approximately 2800 MW, resulting in a deficit of around 1400 MW during the ongoing winter season.
In his appeal, Shaheen emphasized the urgent need for the Government of India to allocate additional power to Jammu & Kashmir to address this significant shortfall. He pointed out that many electric poles and transformers have been damaged, leaving numerous residents without electricity. Despite these challenges, the Power Department has reportedly been issuing substantial power bills to subscribers.
