Kulgam, December 03, 2024: Kulgam Police have successfully arrested two drug peddlers and seized a significant quantity of contraband in an operation that highlights the ongoing war against drugs in the region.
On December 2, 2024, around 7:30 PM, a police party from Kulgam was conducting a routine patrol near village Kaharwath when they intercepted a vehicle (Tata Mobile) with registration number JK18D-4327. As police approached the vehicle for a check, two individuals fled the scene. However, the officers quickly pursued and apprehended the suspects.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of 250 grams of Poppy Straw-like contraband substance, which was found concealed in a bag. During preliminary questioning, the arrested individuals were identified as Mashooq Ahmad Hella, son of Abdul Rashid, a resident of Batpora, Kulgam, and Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, a resident of Okey, Kulgam.
The vehicle involved in the crime was seized, and a case under FIR number 177/2024, Sections 8/15, 29 NDPS, and 132,121 BNS, has been registered at Police Station Kulgam. Investigations are ongoing.
This arrest is part of the continued efforts by local authorities to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety of the community.
