Budgam, Dec 24: Parents and social activists in Central Kashmir’s Budgam have voiced strong objections to private schools using children for promotional activities, including advertisements and social media campaigns.
This practice, they argue, not only exploits children but also violates ethical standards, prompting widespread demands for strict action.
Ajaz Ahmad, a prominent social worker, expressed his concerns during an interaction with reporters. “Children should not be used as tools for advertisement. Schools and coaching centers must refrain from such unethical practices. Instead, they should focus on promoting their institutions through genuine achievements and staff credentials,” he said.
Social activists have appealed to the Director of Education Kashmir and the Education Minister to take swift action to identify and penalize such schools.
Notably, several videos surfaced on social media platforms showing children, particularly young girls, being used in promotional content.
Many parents condemned these acts, emphasizing the harmful impact on their children’s dignity and privacy. A hashtag campaign, #DontUseOurDaughters, has been trending online, further highlighting public discontent.
“Why don’t schools and teachers promote their own work instead of exposing children in advertisements?” questioned a concerned parent. Others pointed out that the focus should be on providing quality education rather than using students for marketing purposes.
The activists have urged authorities to investigate and ensure that schools adhere to ethical guidelines, respecting the rights and welfare of students. [KNT]
