Budgam, Jan 20: The absence of a designated parking space in Beerwah, the main town of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, has led to severe traffic congestion, with vehicles parked on both sides of the road despite a prohibition on roadside parking. This ongoing issue has caused significant inconvenience to residents, students, and commuters, who have been repeatedly expressing frustration over the lack of proper infrastructure.

Advocate Anayat Malik told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that pedestrians are often forced to walk on the road due to the absence of footpaths, further complicating navigation.

“The daily influx of people and students creates a substantial demand for parking, but no designated spaces are available. This forces people to park on the narrow roadsides, resulting in constant traffic jams,” he said.

The problem is exacerbated by the proximity of key public offices and facilities, including the Sub-District Hospital, tehsil office, R&B department, and police station, all within a kilometer of the main town. Vehicles belonging to staff and visitors to these offices add to the chaos on the already congested road stretch.

Locals urged the authorities to address the issue by establishing a designated parking facility. They also urged the traffic police to take stricter action against habitual violators of traffic rules. [KNT]
