Anantnag (Sagam), Jan 20: A 22-year-old college student and talented sketch artist from Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has emerged as a shining example of artistic excellence.

From writing MG-NREGA and Anganwadi boards to becoming a skilled sketch artist, she not only expresses herself creatively but also supports her financial needs through her art.

Munaza Mehnoor, a 5th-semester student at Government Degree College (GDC) Kokernag, has transformed her passion for art into a source of financial independence, proving that creativity can pave the way for self-reliance. Hailing from Tangpawa Sagam, Munazah discovered her love for art during childhood and has nurtured it ever since.

Speaking to KNO, she said, “I discovered my passion for art in childhood. Kashmir is brimming with talent, but it desperately needs a proper platform.”

She believes there is immense potential in fields like calligraphy and sketch art, both of which she sees as promising avenues for young artists.

Renowned for her versatile art skills, Munaza uses her creativity not only to express herself but also to meet her financial needs. She sells her artwork, including stunning paintings, through various platforms, gaining well-deserved recognition in the process.

Munaza said, “I create art in various forms like painting, sketching, calligraphy, and even Mehndi art. Besides that, I write boards for MG-NREGA, Anganwadi, horticulture, and agriculture departments. I am earning through my skills.”

Despite her busy schedule, Munaza ensures her studies remain unaffected. “My artwork doesn’t affect my studies as I manage time for both. In fact, I feel good doing this work. Everyone has a unique skill, and it is not necessary for everyone to become a doctor or an engineer. Parents and society need to support talent,” she said.

She further added, “The government can play a major role by introducing subjects like art and calligraphy at college and school levels. I feel that here in Kashmir, we lack platforms to showcase our art. The government should work on this so that people can display their talents.”—(KNO)
