Budgam, Jan 23: A day after a case was registered against them, four minors accused of injuring an elderly man while playing cricket on a road in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have come forward to clarify their side of the story. The accused boys claim that the elderly man, Abdu Gani Ganai, was not hit by a bat intentionally, contrary to what was reported by a section of the media.

The minors told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that they were playing cricket on an interior road at Waragam Beerwah when Ganai passed by and was inadvertently hit by a bat. The boys claim that they provided water to the injured man, who then walked away on his own. However, they were shocked to see media reports alleging that they had intentionally hit Ganai with a bat.

The minors stated that the police registered a case against them based on the media reports, without verifying the facts. “It was just an accident which was unintentional,” they said, appealing to the media to verify facts on the ground before filing reports.

The boys also highlighted the lack of playgrounds in their area, forcing them to play on the road. The minors urged the police not to file a case against them, citing concerns that it would tarnish their reputations and impact their future prospects. [KNT]
