Kulgam, January 2025: Dr. Showkat Ahmad, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) of Kulgam, has set a new standard in promoting road safety with a series of impactful initiatives during National Road Safety Month 2025. The month-long campaign has captured the attention of the local community and beyond, focusing on the critical need for road safety awareness.

One of the standout moments of the campaign was a dynamic bike rally that spanned across Kulgam. The rally, which featured enthusiastic participants from all walks of life, not only spread awareness about safe driving practices but also encouraged a collective approach to road safety. This unique initiative sparked discussions on responsible driving, pedestrian safety, and the importance of adhering to traffic rules.

Throughout January, ARTO Kulgam organized a variety of engaging activities, including road safety sessions and the distribution of informative materials such as posters and stickers. These resources have helped to amplify the key messages of the campaign, reaching a broad audience across the district.

In a bid to make the message more visible, the district also saw the installation of diamond-shaped boards along major routes, each emblazoned with road safety slogans. These constant reminders have served as a visible call to action for both drivers and pedestrians alike, reinforcing the campaign’s core message.

A significant portion of the campaign focused on involving students. Special awareness programs and rallies have empowered the youth to take an active role in promoting road safety within their schools and communities. By nurturing a sense of responsibility among young people, ARTO Kulgam is fostering the next generation of road safety advocates.

“The initiatives led by Dr. Showkat Ahmad and the ARTO team have been transformative for the district. We’ve seen a noticeable increase in road safety consciousness, and the involvement of students has been particularly inspiring,” said a local resident.

As National Road Safety Month draws to a close, the district of Kulgam stands as a shining example of how local efforts can lead to lasting change. Through education, innovation, and community participation, ARTO Kulgam has made a significant impact on road safety, not only within the district but also inspiring other regions to prioritize road safety in their communities.

Locals and authorities alike have commended the ARTO’s tireless efforts, with many expressing hope that the momentum of this campaign will continue to generate positive change in the years ahead.
