Srinagar, Feb 01: The family and relatives of Umar Yaseen, a young man from Nowgam, staged a protest on Saturday, demanding a thorough investigation into his mysterious death.

Umar’s body was found inside his vehicle at Digdol area of Ramban last month under suspicious circumstances.

According to the details available with the news agency Kashmir News Observer, holding placards and banners, the protesters gathered at Railway Colony, Nowgam, urging authorities to expedite the probe.

The deceased’s family members expressed deep anguish, insisting that their son’s death was not natural. They said, “We do not suspect anyone in particular, but we strongly believe that our son was murdered. We urge the police to investigate thoroughly and uncover the truth.”

Moreover, locals and family members holding placards raised slogans like, “We want justice, Humein Insaaf Do.” Locals as well as family members alleged foul play while asking authorities to conduct a thorough probe.

Meanwhile, police officials when contacted told KNO that the investigation is ongoing. “This matter will be clarified only after the probe is completed. A separate enquiry by Ramban police is also being conducted where the incident occurred,” a police officer said.

Pertinently, Umar Yaseen had gone missing on December 22 while traveling from Srinagar to Jammu in his black Mahindra Thar. His body was discovered at the bottom of a deep gorge near Digdol on December 31. The discovery plunged his family and neighborhood into grief, with heart-wrenching scenes witnessed as his body was brought home for last rites.

After his body was found, it was shifted to a hospital for medical formalities before being handed over to his family. The bereaved family continues to demand justice, urging authorities to bring those responsible to book. The police have assured that investigations are underway—(KNO)
