Kulgam: In a landmark achievement for healthcare in the region, District Hospital (DH) Kulgam successfully performed its first-ever total knee replacement surgery, setting a new standard for medical excellence in the area.

The groundbreaking procedure was carried out on a 65-year-old woman suffering from Grade IV right knee osteoarthritis, a condition that had left her in constant pain and severely restricted her daily activities. Despite facing immense mobility challenges, the patient is now expected to experience significant improvements following the surgery, marking a new chapter in her recovery journey.

A highly skilled team of doctors, along with the operation theatre (OT) staff and medical professionals at DH Kulgam, collaborated seamlessly to execute the complex surgery. The success of the operation is attributed to the hospital’s advanced operation theatre, state-of-the-art medical equipment, and the combined expertise of the medical team.

Speaking about the achievement, Medical Superintendent A.G. Raina expressed immense pride in the hospital’s progress, stating, “This is the first-ever knee replacement surgery performed here at DH Kulgam, and we are thrilled to be able to offer such advanced medical care to our community. We thank the Health Minister, Director of Health Services Kashmir, DC Kulgam, and CMO Kulgam for their unwavering support. In the near future, we plan to further enhance our capabilities by introducing the latest machinery, with a generous fund of 50 lacs from the MLA of Kulgam dedicated to these upgrades.”

The patient, who has already shown signs of recovery, is now under close post-operative care and will undergo physiotherapy sessions to regain mobility and strength. It is expected that her quality of life will greatly improve, thanks to this successful procedure.

This achievement underscores the growing capabilities of DH Kulgam in offering advanced orthopedic treatments, thus reducing the need for patients to travel long distances to access specialized care. The hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare has been reaffirmed, with plans to continue enhancing services to better serve the people of Kulgam and surrounding regions.

As healthcare facilities in the district advance, this success is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the medical professionals at DH Kulgam, who remain committed to bringing specialized medical treatments closer to the community, ensuring improved patient care for years to come.
