DC Kupwara Inauguration of Live Fish Vending Centre at Chowkibal, Kupwara under PMMSY

KUPWARA FEBRUARY 18 : In a significant step towards boosting the Fisheries sector in Kupwara, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ms. Ayushi Sudan, IAS, inaugurated a Live Fish Vending Centre at Chowkibal, Kupwara, under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).  The initiative aims to promote hygienic fish marketing, enhance income generation for fish farmers, and ensure the availability of fresh fish to consumers. The Live Fish Vending Centre is expected to strengthen the local fisheries sector, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the Blue Revolution in the region.  Speaking at the event, DC Kupwara Ms. Ayushi Sudan emphasized the importance of fisheries as a key sector for economic growth and food security. She appreciated the efforts of the Department of Fisheries Kupwara in implementing the PMMSY & HADP  schemes effectively and encouraged local entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in the fisheries sector.  Dr. Salman Rauoof Chalkoo, Assistant Director Fisheries Kupwara, highlighted that the Live Fish Vending Centre will ensure the availability of live and fresh fish to consumers, minimize post-harvest losses, and enhance the market value of fish produce. He further reiterated the department’s commitment to supporting fish farmers through various government schemes.  Local fish farmers and community members expressed their gratitude for the initiative, stating that it will help in improving livelihoods and increasing the reach of fresh fish in the market.  The Fisheries Department Kupwara assured continued support to local fish farmers and entrepreneurs, encouraging them to take advantage of government schemes for sustainable development in the sector
