Kulgam, March 12: The District Administration Kulgam, in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), today organized a one-day workshop on Disaster Management. The event was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Viqar Ahmed Giri, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DDMA Kulgam.

The workshop witnessed the participation of ASP Kulgam Tanveer Ahmad, ACR Mushtaq Lone, all Tehsildars, Executive Engineers from various departments, senior officers from CRPF, Fire & Emergency Services, and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, CEO DDMA Viqar Ahmed Giri highlighted the importance of pooling and utilizing resources from different agencies to efficiently tackle disasters in the district. He noted that Kulgam frequently faces natural adversities such as flash floods, earthquakes, cloudbursts, fires, and snow avalanches, which require coordinated and immediate responses.

ADC Giri emphasized the need for a well-structured disaster management approach, stressing the role of cooperation between departments, volunteers, and individuals to minimize losses from unforeseen disasters.

ASP Kulgam Tanveer Ahmad also addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of inter-agency collaboration to strengthen disaster response efforts. He stressed the necessity of effective communication channels, such as control rooms and department coordination, during emergencies.

Earlier, a consultant from DDMA Kulgam presented a departmental disaster management plan through a PowerPoint presentation, outlining strategies to deal with emergencies effectively.

Additionally, officials and volunteers from Aapda Mitra distributed informational materials, including pamphlets, and conducted awareness sessions and demonstrations on rescue and rehabilitation techniques during disasters.

The workshop concluded with a resolution that each department will prepare its own draft disaster management plan and share it with the district administration to ensure better coordination in case of emergencies.
