Srinagar, Apr 23,: The Pahalgam militant attack as per official data left 26 people dead and 17 others injured. Officials have confirmed that among the deceased are 24 Indian tourists, one local Kashmiri resident, and one Nepali national, Sudeep Neupane. Contrary to early fears, no foreign tourists were among the victims.

The victims, according to the news agency Kashmir News Trust, hailed from various corners of India, representing a cross-section of the country’s cultural and professional fabric. Among the deceased were two defense personnel—Vinay Narwal from Haryana, who served in the Indian Navy, and Tagehalying from Arunachal Pradesh, an Air Force officer. The list also includes Madhusudan Somisetty from Karnataka, an employee at tech giant IBM at Bengaluru, and Manish Ranjan from Bihar, an Excise Inspector.

The deceased local resident was identified as Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a young man from Hapatnard, Pahalgam, whose death has sent waves of grief across the Valley. He was reportedly helping tourists at the time of the attack.

Among the most heart-wrenching cases is that of a father-son duo—Yatesh Parmar and Sumit Parmar from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, who were both killed in the attack.

List of victims as identified by Hospital records include Sushil Nathyal (Madhya Pradesh), Syed Adil Hussain Shah (Kashmir), Hemant Suhas Joshi, Atul Shrikant Moni, Sanjay Lakshman Lali, Dileep Dasali, Santosh Jaghda, Kastuba Ganvotay, (Maharashtra), Vinay Narwal (Haryana), Neeraj Udhawani (Uttrakhand), Bitan Adhikari and Sameer Gohar (West Bengal), Sudeep Neupane (Nepal), Shubham Dwivedi (Uttar Pradesh), Prashant Kumar Satpathi (Orissa), Manish Ranjan (Bihar), N. Ramachandra (Kerala), Dinesh Aggarwal (Chandigarh), Sachindra Moli (Andhra Pradesh), Madhusudan Somisetty, Bharat Bhushan and Manju Nath Rao (Karnataka), Sumit Parmar and his father Yatesh Parmar and Shailesh Bhai (Gujurat), Tagehalying (Arunachal Pradesh).

Of the 17 injured in the attack, only one person, Sobede Patil remains in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the neck. He is currently receiving intensive treatment at SKIMS Soura, where doctors have said his condition is serious but stable. Eleven injured are stable with minor injuries. [KNT]
