Anantnag, May 24: Amid growing criticism and public anger over repeated allegations of medical negligence, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag on Saturday cancelled the permission granted to Paras Hospital Srinagar for organizing a medical camp at the Municipal Committee Meeting Hall in Kokernag, scheduled for May 26.

The cancellation, communicated through official order No. SDM/KNG/2025-26/789-95, comes just hours after another tragic incident surfaced—where a young man reportedly died at the hospital due to alleged medical negligence. The death has once again raised serious concerns over the functioning and accountability of the hospital, which continues to remain in the news for all the wrong reasons.

The order, issued on May 24, explicitly states that the permission granted earlier under No. SDM/KNG/2025-26/759-65 dated May 23 is “hereby cancelled with immediate effect.” The SDM has directed various departments, including the police and municipal authorities, to ensure compliance and take necessary action.

The decision appears to be a direct response to the spiraling controversies surrounding Paras Hospital, which has recently faced a spate of accusations from grieving families alleging misdiagnosis, overcharging, and life-threatening negligence.
Today, notably, a massive protests erupted within the premises of the hospital after the death of 34-year-old Waseem Ahmed Pathan, a Saudi-returned youth from Pampore. His family alleged that he died due to careless post-operative treatment and accused the hospital of extorting Rs 5 lakh while failing to provide proper care. Protesters described Paras Hospital as a “slaughterhouse” and a “money-minting machine,” demanding action against the responsible doctors and the hospital management. [KNT]
