Budgam May 24: A one-day Mega Awareness cum Training Programme was organized by the Horticulture Department under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) at Town Hall, Magam. The programme aimed to empower farmers with knowledge of the latest horticultural practices and government-sponsored schemes.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 100 farmers representing various horticulture zones of the Magam, Beerwah, and Narbal areas. Dr. Mohammed Shafi, Hon’ble MLA of Beerwah, graced the occasion along with the District Horticulture Officer of Budgam and other officials from the Horticulture Department.
Participants received detailed information about multiple government schemes and initiatives focused on enhancing the horticulture sector. Officers encouraged farmers to adopt modern and scientific techniques such as post-harvest technology and high-density plantation. It was emphasized that the government is offering substantial support, including incentives, to help farmers boost productivity and income.
Special attention was given to the promotion of high-density plantations for both fresh fruits and walnuts. Officials also underscored the department’s shift in focus towards grading and marketing of produce, noting that many local farmers have already developed high-density nurseries for apples and walnuts.
Dr. Mohammed Shafi praised the efforts of the Horticulture Department in organizing the camp and called for similar awareness programmes to be conducted across other parts of the district, so more farmers can benefit.
Experts and officers from various other departments were also present and provided comprehensive information about the schemes and initiatives of their respective departments, all aimed at strengthening the agricultural and horticultural sectors of the region.
