Srinagar, June 18 : The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet on Wednesday evening held a meeting at the Civil Secretariat Srinagar where the reservation policy report was discussed and later referred to the Law Department for legal examination.

One of the Cabinet minister told that the Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) report on the issue of reservations, which has recently triggered political and public uproar, was not decided upon in finality and was instead sent to the Department of Law, J&K for further review.

“The cabinet held detailed deliberations on the CSC report regarding the reservation policy and after discussion, the report was referred to the Law Department for its opinion,” he said.

He further said no timeline was fixed by the cabinet for the return of the report from the Law Department, suggesting the process may take some time. “Only after legal vetting, the report will return to the cabinet for a final decision,” he said.

The cabinet also held discussions on steps to revive tourism in Kashmir, especially after the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in a noticeable drop in tourist arrivals, sources told KNS.

The meeting also focused on logistics and health arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah which lasted for more than an hour, they added.
