Pattan, June 28: Nallah Sukhnag, the main drinking water source river in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, is facing pollution threat from locals. People are wastes, especially plastic waste, polythenes and household waste, which is turning out to be an eyesore.
The stagnant water as per locals is creating lot of problems for locals as there is no intervention from concerned authorities.
“Polythene, plastic bags and other waste is being dumped inside the river.From Mirgund to Daslipora, one can see heeps of garbage inside the river.
“As per locals, we informed the concerned authorities several times but they failed to do anything sustantial”, said sameer Ahmad, a local resident of Hartrath.
“The garbage inside the river emantes a foul smell & poses a threat of stray dogs”, said ajaz Ahmad.
The residents of Mirgund, Singhpora, Hartrath, Daslipora and Khanpeth appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Minga Sherpa and SDM Pattan to personally visit the area and if the problem cannot be addressed at the district level, may be brought to the notice of LG administartion for redressal.
